Donald Trump offered a total of three different models. The two shown in the post and another flat model in orange.

The shoes in black and orange were available to pre-order for 299 and the gold model for 499 US dollars. The shoes, each limited to 1,000 units, sold out within a few hours.

When asked who buys these shoes, David Bailey, CEO of BTC Inc, the company behind the Bitcoin conference, has an answer: according to his own statements, he himself ordered Donald Trump's Bitcoin sneakers - and paid for them in Bitcoin.

The sale of the shoes has nothing to do with Donald Trump's election campaign, according to the website.

In addition to the Bitcoin shoes, the Republican presidential candidate is also selling some with the famous picture of the assassination attempt on him a few weeks ago. These sneakers say "fight fight fight", which is what Trump shouted shortly after he was shot.

The "crypto president"

Donald Trump has clearly positioned himself as a pro-Bitcoin or pro-crypto president during the election campaign. The highlight so far was the appearance at the Bitcoin conference in Nashville referenced in the post about the shoes. There, the 79-year-old announced, among other things, that as president he would establish a Bitcoin reserve for the USA - Blocktrainer.de reported.

Despite the enthusiasm for the fact that Bitcoin has already made it into the middle of the election campaign for president of the world's most relevant economy, there is skepticism in the Bitcoin community as to whether Trump has really understood Satoshi Nakamoto's creation. Some of the presidential candidate's statements, such as that Bitcoin stands for "freedom, sovereignty and independence from government, coercion and control", do suggest this. However, the differentiation between Bitcoin and "crypto", which is also made clear by the name "Crypto President" on the shoes, leaves a bland aftertaste.

Businessman and opportunist

Donald Trump is a shrewd businessman. It is not without reason that he has managed to amass a large fortune through his personal brand and real estate business. Even when NTFs proved to be a lucrative business, the 79-year-old sold animated images of himself on the blockchain.

The pro-Bitcoin stance also seems to be driven by self-interest. And the strategy is working: On the one hand, Trump seems to be winning over the many holders of Bitcoin and co. as voters. On the other hand, this positioning also allows him to tap into generous donations in the increasingly financially strong crypto sector.

For example, the Winklevoss twins, who founded the crypto trading platform Gemini, have each donated almost 850,000 US dollars in Bitcoin to the Republican presidential candidate. Bitcoin bull Gary Cardone, brother of the famous sales trainer and entrepreneur Grant Cardone, also gave Donald Trump the maximum amount for campaign donations of USD 844,600 via BTC. In total, Trump raised over four million US dollars through the crypto donation method introduced at the end of May.

Donald Trump was also able to win over David Marcus, the former president of payment service provider PayPal, with his Bitcoin-friendly stance. Marcus, who was also involved in the now-discarded idea of the cryptocurrency Libra or Diem for Facebook and is now CEO of a Bitcoin Lightning service provider, explained in detail in a post on 𝕏 why he thinks the Republican presidential candidate is the right choice.

I believe we need a President who is unequivocally pro: America, the Constitution, business, Bitcoin/crypto, innovation, Israel, small government, legal immigration, free speech, meritocracy, and common sense […] In this pivotal moment, confronted with the choices we have, I am endorsing and supporting a return to a Republican administration in 2025.
David Marcus

Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who is also a Trump supporter, quoted this post and wrote: "Interesting".

Even though Donald Trump's pro-Bitcoin positioning is probably primarily driven by opportunism and he probably does not yet fully understand the vision behind it, Bitcoin supporters from the US seem to be united behind the Republican presidential candidate. However, as is so often the case with politicians, it remains to be seen whether they will turn words into deeds.
